The Concept I am Pursuing - Pull N Loop
Below is an annotated photograph of my prototype for Pull N Loop. I state in the notes what refinements will be needed for this concept.
Concept Testing Process
For my concept testing process, I interviewed five respondents and made them choose only one among the three prototypes that I produced out of three concepts (see below). I asked them to handle the prototypes and to choose based on functionality rather than on colors or textures.
Afterwards, I asked them to identify what their likes and dislikes were and to give some suggestions. I also included a three-point purchase intent score at the end of the interview, just to have an indication if they would buy it.
- EZ Roll - roll bag + mountain climbing snap hook
- Grab, Pull N Go - drawstring bag + handle
- Pull N Loop - drawstring bag with drawstring forming a loop strap
Afterwards, I asked them to identify what their likes and dislikes were and to give some suggestions. I also included a three-point purchase intent score at the end of the interview, just to have an indication if they would buy it.
Based on the test, Pull N Loop was the winning concept. I also noted that it was too early to do a purchase intent because I didn't have a price range for my concept. The interviews gave me insights into what refinements I could introduce to my concept:
I also saw that the drawstring was important to most of the respondents. I noticed that my own personal favorite, the EZ Roll, did not get chosen. I realize that a loop has more types of uses versus a hook. All in all, the concept testing phase was really enlightening.
- make the loop big enough to fit a hand (this is especially important to commuters)
- streamline the bag to umbrella size
- make the bag a bit longer
- put a pocket or pockets inside for loose change, fare, etc.
- make the loop have a soft grip (this is important for women)
